Details for donating to "Gifts of Joy"
Christmas is a joyous time, especially for children, when WPC families share and give to the Gifts of Joy program.
It is designed to assist in providing a memorable Christmas for children from McWhirter Elementary and
Brookside Intermediate schools. These are children whose families cannot provide that "Perfect Christmas."
These children are identified as “in need” by the staff at their schools and the families are contacted so that their
child(ren) can participate in the program. Last year we received this note from Brookside Intermediate’s program
coordinator. "On behalf of all the students and their parents, I send you their warmest and most sincere “thanks.”
Their faces were so happy with big smiles, ready to tell me about the holidays and their gifts. Please share this
note of gratitude with all the kind-hearted spirits of the season."
The Gift of Joy Team will provide a table in the Narthex before & after each service on Nov. 22, 29, & Dec 6 where
members of the congregation can pick up an information sheet on a child for whom they wish to provide
Christmas presents. Each child will be assigned a number to protect the identity of the family. The sheet will list
the age, clothing sizes and a short wish list from each child. Gifts may be dropped off in the Gallery during the
week or no later than Sunday, Dec. 7. If possible, please provide a gift receipt to make it easy for clothing or other
exchanges to take place. In addition, gift wrapping supplies and disposable cameras are always appreciated by the
families if a member should wish to provide these.
Please keep in mind that some of the children that we are assisting may be siblings when you are doing your
shopping. We suggest no more than three of four gifts (at least one article of clothing and two items from the
child’s wish list) per child so that no child feels left out on Christmas morning. If you are in doubt as to what to
buy, a gift card is a welcomed treat. Please be sure to put the amount on the card. Shopping for a child is always a
wonderful way to get in the holiday spirit. Please consider giving the "Gifts of Joy" to a needy child this
Christmas season.
Please contact Kaylin Dupree (281.484.0150) or Paula Bray (281.484.6909) with any questions.
