WPC's Circle of Concern encompasses ministry to local or community activities, support of The Presbytery of New Covenant and its programs, special offerings to the Presbyterian Church (USA), and personal and international outreach.
Community Activities
WPC is proud of congregational participation in local mission:
Teach English as a Second Language (ESL) at the Oasis of Hope Church.
Man the Webster Technology Center which develops computer skills for Webster school children and area adults.
Work at Interfaith Caring Ministries (ICM) in the resale shop and pantry.
Participate in the annual CROP Walk for Hunger.
Work with Bay Area Habitat for Humanity to build houses in Dickinson.
Volunteer as drivers and coordinators for Bay Area Meals on Wheels.
Prepare Christmas shoe-box gifts for the Barbours Cut Seafarers Center.
Buy Christmas gifts for McWhirter Elementary School's needy children.
In addition to the above, the Mission Ministry gives support to the Bay Area Turning Point shelter for abused women and children and the Krist Samaritan Center for Counseling & Education.
Presbytery Support
Cho Yeh Camp and Conference Center, Presbyterian Children's Homes and Services, Presbyterian Outreach to Patients (POP), United Campus Ministry of Greater Houston.
PC(USA) Special Offerings
Joy Offering (Christmas) - pension assistance for retired clergy and funding for eight Presbyterian racial ethnic schools and colleges.
One Great Hour of Sharing (Palm Sunday) - international disaster relief.
Pentecost Offering (Pentecost Sunday) - supports ministries dealing with children at risk, youth and young adults.
Peacemaking (World Communion Sunday) - Peacemaking efforts with 25% retained by WPC to support local peacemaking endeavors.
Personal & International Mission
WPC Patriots provides outreach to our military personnel serving in active duty away from home by means of written communication, care packages and prayer.
Each summer WPC senior highs participate in a mission trip to assist those in need. They have journeyed to Appalachia, Juarez, Mexico, and Florida's Habitat for Humanity.
As a result of the horrible devastation caused by hurricane Katrina, an adult mission team spent a week cleaning out houses in New Orleans and plans to return early spring 2007.
We are proud to support our homegrown missionary Vicky Smith through Session approved funding, individual pledges and a musical concert provided by WPC Music Ministry. Vicki will soon begin a two year teaching assignment on the Caribbean island of Jamaica.
The Christian Medical College, Vellore occupies a prominent place among medical instritutions in India and the world. WPC is proud to support this facility and have a member of our congregation serve of its board of directors.
